Rivian, a developer of battery-electric vehicles, has acquired Iternio, a Sweden-based developer of EV route-planning apps, with plans to integrate Iternio's technology into Rivian's electric pickups and sport utility vehicles. Neither party has disclosed financial terms of the deal.
Iternio’s route planning app, “A Better Routeplanner (ABRP),” provides a route calculation service that takes factors such as account weather conditions, charging stops, vehicle weight into consideration. The app is available for EV users across North America and Europe.
Rivian plans to invest in the growth of ABRP as a standalone app for users of other EVs while also integrating ABRP’s technology into its own mobile app and in-vehicle navigation systems. Rivian also plans to use Iternio’s data to expand Rivian’s charging network.
