Amazon has announced the closure of three of its Just Walk Out-powered Amazon Fresh stores in the UK, including a West London location, which was Amazon's first Just Walk Out grocery store outside of the US. The other two stores that will be closed are in Wandsworth and East Sheen.
As per Amazon, the closures resulted from a periodic reassessment of the company’s store portfolio and did not indicate a move away from the Fresh store formats. The company plans to launch new Amazon Fresh locations in the greater London area in 2023.
Analyst QuickTake : Amazon also recently has been reassessing its US store portfolio, and in February 2023 , announced its plans to slow the expansion of its Just Walk Out and Amazon One-powered brick-and-mortar stores with plans to close certain Amazon Fresh and Go stores with low-growth potential. However, Amazon has continued to roll out its automated store technologies at other retail locations, including the Amazon-owned grocery retailer, Whole Foods locations, as well as Six Flags and Panera Bread restaurants .
