80 Acres Farms opens vertical farming facility in Kentucky

Geographic expansion

  • 80 Acres Farms, a vertical farm that specializes in growing greens, herbs, and vegetables, has opened a USD 74 million vertical farming facility in Florence, Kentucky. This facility will produce leafy greens, herbs, microgreens, and tomatoes, with salads available in single-serve and family-size portions.

  • Despite announcing a 10% layoff earlier this year, the company plans to create over 100 new jobs with the opening of the new facility.

  • Analyst QuickTake: 80 Acres Farms has been making significant strides in expanding its presence across the US. The Kentucky farm, which was announced early last year, is the latest addition to its nine other facilities located in Hamilton, Cincinnati, Arkansas, Georgia , and beyond. This new facility also follows the company’s recent developments, including the launch of its ready-to-eat salad kits earlier this month, available at more than 200 locations in Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Last month, the company expanded its retail partnership with Kroger to supply about 1,000 Kroger stores in the Midwest and Southeast.
