Origin Materials, a carbon-negative materials manufacturer, has been awarded funding from BioMADE, a US Department of Defense (DoD) Manufacturing Innovation Institute. The funding totals USD 18.7 million; Origin Materials is one of nine projects chosen.
With the funding, Origin Materials plans to develop bio-based polymers and bio-based carbon black samples, which can be used to create sustainable tires and other products. The aim is to support the DoD's fleet decarbonization efforts.
Analyst QuickTake: This funding comes amidst Origin actively securing strategic partnerships to drive strong growth in its topline. It recently partnered with Sustainea Bioglycols , Terphane , Proman, and Husky Technologies and secured capacity reservation agreements for its bio-based material after initiating its Origin 1 plant. This funding from DoD further validates Origin’s technology and demand for its bio-based material.
