Heirloom, a direct air capture (DAC) startup, has opened the first commercial DAC facility in the US to fulfill commercial CO2 removal purchases. This facility, located in Tracy, California, utilizes limestone to absorb captured CO2.
Heirloom's DAC facility is powered by renewable energy supplied by Ava Community Energy. The company also partnered with CarbonCure Technologies to permanently sequester the captured CO2 in concrete.
As of November 2023, this facility has been operational for 1,000 hours. Heirloom aims to capture ~1,000 tons of CO2 annually and fulfill its early purchase agreements with Microsoft , Stripe, Shopify, and Klarna.
