DroneUp obtains FAA approval for BVLOS deliveries in US

Regulation/policy

  • DroneUp, a drone-based delivery services provider, has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to conduct beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) drone-based deliveries in the US.

  • The approval allows DroneUp to operate drones beyond the remote pilot's direct visual line of sight during the flight, and observers are not required to maintain visual contact with the drones.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Today’s approval now adds DroneUp to the handful of companies that have obtained this approval, including Alphabet-owned Wing, Zipline, Matternet, and Flytrex. These developments signify increased autonomy for drone operators and will pave the way for such companies to expand drone adoption and scale their services.
