Forsea Foods, an Israeli cell-cultured seafood company, hosted the first taste test for its cultivated freshwater eel at an exclusive event in Tel Aviv. The event featured Forsea's cell-cultured eel as an unagi kabayaki, a classic Japanese dish, alongside other seafood dishes.
The cell-cultured eel, made with patented organoid technology, is planned for commercial launch by 2026. The technology allows the fish cells to self-assemble into three-dimensional tissue, mirroring natural growth in living fish and bypassing the scaffolding stage, which often relies heavily on costly growth factors.
Analyst QuickTake: Forsea Foods’ cultivated eel product has quickly advanced since its prototype unveiling in January 2024 . The R&D for this product was funded by the company’s USD 5.2 million seed round in October 2022.
