Firefly Aerospace to launch eight cubesats aboard Alpha rocket

Product updates

  • Firefly Aerospace, an American aerospace company, plans its fifth launch of its Alpha rocket for the "Noise of Summer" mission from California's Vandenberg Space Force Base. The rocket will deliver eight cubesats to low-Earth orbit (LEO).

  • The liftoff was initially scheduled to launch at 04:03 a.m. GMT on July 1, 2024; however, due to ground support issues, it was postponed by two days to 04:03 a.m. GMT on July 3, 2024.

  • The eight cubesats were developed by teams at the University of Arizona, the University of Kansas, the University of Maine, the University of Washington, a nonprofit called "Teachers in Space," and two NASA facilities. NASA's Cubesat Launch Initiative chose Firefly Aerospace’s spacecraft to deliver the satellites.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Firefly's Alpha rocket has previous experience delivering satellites with its selection by the US Space Force for 2 "Victus Nox" missions in October 2022 and a year later in September 2023 .
