Amazon has announced plans to implement its Just Walk Out frictionless checkout technology in 10 additional on-campus convenience stores, expanding its presence in the education sector.
New US schools joining the Just Walk Out ecosystem include Emory University, the University of Maine, Loyola University Maryland, Endicott University, Lindenwood University, Ursinus College, Texas Christian University, and the University of Virginia. Some of these stores will also incorporate Amazon One palm-based biometric payments. The expansion will bring the total number of Just Walk Out campus convenience stores to over 30 worldwide across three countries.
Analyst QuickTake: Amazon has been increasingly deploying its Just Walk Out technology at various third-party locations. The company also announced plans to open 14 new Just Walk Out-powered stores at NFL stadiums , bringing its presence at stadium venues to over 80 locations. The company’s other recent Just Walk Out deployments include stores at the University of Virginia (August 2024) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (June 2024).
