Starship Technologies, an autonomous delivery droid manufacturer, has received EUR 50 million (approximately USD 57 million) in quasi-equity financing from the European Investment Bank, the investment arm of the European Union. This brings the company’s total funds raised to more than USD 150 million.
The company intends to utilize the funds for further R&D; manufacturing a “thousand more droids” at its facility in Tallinn, Estonia; and expanding its engineering team.
<ul><li>The company also revealed that its droids have now made more than 2.5 million commercial deliveries, translating into 3+ million miles traveled (up from two million deliveries and 2.7 million miles announced in October last year). </ul>
<ul><li> Analyst QuickTake: Starship Technologies is by far the most funded startup in the droid-based delivery space, followed by Coco Robotics with USD 43 million raised to date. Starship is also the only droid manufacturer with established commercial operations, and its services span across the US, UK, and some other European countries. Today’s raise comes one year after the company raised USD 17 million in venture capital.</ul>
