Canadian startup Flashfood, which offers an app that helps find and purchase groceries nearing expiration at a discount, has announced expanding its partnership with SpartanNash, a wholesale grocery distributor with over 145 company-owned stores across nine US states.
Under the terms of the deal, Flashfood app access will be facilitated to an additional 44 Family Fare and VG’s Grocery stores across Michigan, Iowa, and Nebraska. This marks Flashfood’s entry into Iowa and Nebraska.
The two companies initially partnered in February 2020 to pilot the app at five Family Fares and Martin’s Super Markets in Michigan and Indiana. As of now, 40,000 customers of SpartanNash stores use the app and have helped divert 180,000 pounds of food waste from landfills.
