Toronto-based quantum computing startup Xanadu has entered into a partnership with chip manufacturer GlobalFoundries (GF) and Canadian non-profit organization Quantum Algorithms Institute (QAI). The terms and financial details of the partnerships have not been disclosed.
In partnership with GF, Xanadu will work on initiating the mass-production of photonic chips for quantum computers by leveraging GF’s Fotonix platform that will enable 300mm wafer fabrication of the integrated photonic devices designed by Xanadu. The resultant functional devices are expected to be ready by the end of 2023.

The partnership with QAI will focus on building a quantum-ready workforce by offering Xanadu’s quantum hardware and software products as well as its quantum expertise to students. The duo will also involve the students in real-world problem-solving projects as a means of providing enhanced training and education. QAI recently teamed up with Texas-based quantum startup Strangeworks under a similar partnership agreement.

Analyst QuickTake: Xanadu has been on a roll with new partnerships in recent times, as it aims to achieve its 2026 goal of building a one million-qubit system. The company joined Belgian research and innovation center IMEC in August 2021 to develop and fabricate photonic qubits. It also teamed up with fellow quantum startups Agnostiq (November 2021) and Multiverse Computing (February 2022) solely to focus on finance-specific solutions.
