Clearview AI, a developer of facial recognition-based solutions for law enforcement, has released an upgraded version of its facial recognition platform named Clearview 2.0, which represents the most significant update since the initial launch.

The facial recognition database now consists of 20 billion images with added security and functionality enhancements and is being rolled out to the company’s existing clients including 3,100+ government agencies that include the FBI and Department of Homeland Security.

The new version also includes image enhancement tools that allow customers to use images previously deemed unusable due to reasons like poor lighting and low resolution.

Analyst QuickTake: The company has doubled the number of images in its database in just five months, where it reported reaching the 10 billion mark in October last year, and it appears to be reaching its goal to have a 100 billion image database as announced last month. Despite the controversies faced by the company and being subject to bans in several countries, the company seems to be expanding at a rapid pace, further supported by the patent it received from USPTO for its technology and validation from the NIST as the most accurate facial recognition algorithm in several categories.
