Based in Australia, AML3D develops a patented wire additive manufacturing process that 3D prints metal parts for the aerospace, defense, maritime, manufacturing, mining, and oil and gas industries. The printer system named ARCEMY is a medium to large-scale metal 3D printer that combines welding science, automation, and proprietary software to deposit molten wire layer by layer in a controlled manner.
The company claims that its technology can manufacture large parts 70% cheaper than traditional technologies, increase build speed by 75%, and reduce wastage by up to 85%.
AML3D received a European patent for its Wire Additive Manufacturing (WAM) process in July 2023. In December 2024, AML3D established its US headquarters and manufacturing hub in Stow, Ohio. The facility is equipped with an ARCEMY system for metal 3D printing of industrial-scale parts, with a second system planned for early 2025. Moreover, the company planned to invest an additional USD 7.7 million to double capacity at Stow with up to two more ARCEMY systems to meet increased demand from the US Department of Defense.
Key customers and partnerships
AML3D was contracted by BAE Systems Maritime Australia in November 2022 to develop prototype warship parts for the Royal Australian Navy. In April 2023, the company signed an exclusive US value-added reseller agreement with Phillips Corporation, a manufacturer and sales partner to the US Federal Government including the US Navy, Air Force, and Army. In March 2023, it also entered a contract with the DOD for an alloy characterization and testing program supporting the US Navy submarine industrial base. The company also had a partnership with Boeing to print aluminum prototype airplane parts.
In December 2024, the company entered an AUD 2.27 million (USD 1.46 million) agreement with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), a federal power supplier, to provide its ARCEMY X system for power generation repair capabilities.
In September 2024, AML3D, signed a Manufacturing License Agreement (MLA) with Blue Forge Alliance, a US nonprofit supporting the US Navy's Submarine Industrial Base. The open-ended agreement allows AML3D to access technical assistance and data on US Navy submarine parts enabling the company to use its ARCEMY Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing technology on submarine components while also enabling the company to collaborate with other US Navy suppliers.
