AXA (EPA: CS) is a French multinational insurance company that operates across 51 countries (2023). The company is the second-largest insurance group in France (2023) and has been listed on the Euronext Paris exchange since 1999. It generated revenue of EUR 102.7 billion (~USD 111.2 billion) in 2023.
AXA operates across four main business segments: Property & Casualty, Life & Health, Asset Management, and Banking. The Property & Casualty business (~52% of total revenue in 2023) includes the insurance of personal property and liability, while the Life and Health (~47%) business provide individual life and health insurance policies. The Asset Management business (~2%) involves investing and managing assets for the group's insurance companies, their clients, and third-party retail and institutional clients. AXA also provides limited banking services (~0.1%) to its individual clients in France.
France was AXA’s largest individual insurance market (~27% of revenue in 2023) and the company’s US subsidiary, AXA XL, accounted for ~18% of revenue in 2023. AXA’s strategic plan for 2024–2026 (“ Unlock the Future ”) is focused on growing and strengthening its core businesses. This is based on three key initiatives: 1) driving higher growth across its P&C commercial and health insurance lines, while expanding selectively across regions and growing distribution channels; 2) scaling technical capabilities and use of AI for automation; and 3) enhancing AXA’s role in society through inclusive insurance and climate-related offerings.
