CropX develops a crop management platform that collects data using soil sensors and aerial imagery; the data is then analyzed to offer farmers precise predictions on information such as soil and weather conditions. CropX also launched a new feature in August 2022 for its farm management system that tracks movement of nitrogen and salts in the soil. Through this feature, farmers can reduce the environmental impact of nitrogen leaching by identifying and managing it when it happens. As of October 2020, the company reported serving more than 1,200 farming customers worldwide and having deployed almost 9,000 sensors.
CropX has completed a string of acquisitions to expand its product offering and market presence. It acquired Nebraska-based cloud-based precision irrigation tool provider CropMetrics to expand its presence in the US (January 2020); New Zealand Cloud-based precision irrigation provider Regen to expand into New Zealand’s farm market (September 2020); and Dacom Farm Intelligence, a Dutch crop management platform, to gain access to the European market ( August 2021 ).
To continue growing its US presence and irrigation offering, CropX also partnered with Reinke, an irrigation management leader operating across 40 countries, including the US (August 2020,). The company also ran its soil application on Amazon’s AWS, gaining 4x as much data as it had two years ago, and in the process, enabled farmers to make better decisions (2020). CropX signed an investment agreement alongside a product development partnership with multinational fluid management systems provider Aliaxis ( April 2022 ).
In March 2022 , CropX announced that it received an investment of an undisclosed amount from HELM AG, a German multinational chemical company. HELM AG also joined CropX as a strategic partner following the investment and would combine their technologies to expand the latter’s fertilizer management and crop protection offerings. Later that month, the CropX also partnered with Proman to expand the former’s fertilizer management solutions.
In January 2023 , the company acquired precision irrigation company, Tule, for an undisclosed amount to provide additional insights and recommendations to farmers, leveraging Tule’s data collection technologies and expanding its offerings to Californian drip-irrigated specialty crops. In March 2023 , CropX completed an API integration with Talgil, a global producer of irrigation control systems. The CropX agronomic farm management system was integrated with Talgil controllers to simplify the irrigation management process for users, as they no longer have to deal with multiple user interfaces. In December 2023, the company acquired Green Brain , a provider of digital irrigation management solutions, for an undisclosed amount, enabling CropX to expand in Australia.
In September 2023, CropX partnered with Zuari FarmHub , an Indian AgriTech company, to introduce advanced sensor-based agronomic farm management systems in India.
In August 2024, CropX partnered with CNH Industrial, a leading manufacturer of agricultural and industrial equipment and commercial vehicles, to introduce a new application programming interface connection which links their farmer management system with CNH's argicultural equipment.
Funding and financials
In April 2023, CropX raised USD 30 million in a Series C funding round led by Aliaxis SA for developing its agronomic farm management system and acquiring companies with complementary technologies and market reach. Later in October 2023, the company raised an undisclosed amount in an extended Series C funding round from Newtree Impact to expand globally.
