Canada-based CarbiCrete develops innovative and low-cost building solutions using carbon dioxide (CO2). The company’s patented technology enables the production of cement-free and carbon-negative concrete. CarbiCrete’s product offering includes concrete masonry units (CMU), pavers, and retaining walls. For every ton of concrete produced using this process, 150 kg of CO2 will be removed.
The company’s pilot-scale project was deployed at Patio Drummond, Canada. Production at the pilot facility began in January 2021 and was expected to ramp up to 25,000 CMUs per day by the end of the same year. In October 2023, CarbiCrete and Patio Drummond started to commercially produce Carbi-Crete blocks in two curing chambers that are capable of manufacturing 2,400 CarbiCrete cinder blocks daily. In November 2023, CarbiCrete received validation for its cement-free, carbon-negative concrete process from Enviro-access, a Canadian environmental impact assessment company, that its manufacturing process eliminates more than 100% of the global warming potential of traditional concrete blocks. This was based on data from the company’s commercial facility at Drummondville, Quebec. In December 2023, CarbiCrete’s products were certified under ASTM C90 performance requirements for concrete masonry units (CMUs).
