Nissan Motor Corporation (7201: TYO) is a Japanese multinational manufacturer of automobiles and related automotive products. As of August 2023, Nissan operated 31 manufacturing facilities in 16 countries and offered its products and services in more than 190 countries. Nissan reported revenue of JPY 10,597 billion (USD 80 billion) in FY2022 (year ending March 31) and sold more than 3.3 million automobiles, accounting for a global market share of ~4%. It was ranked as the 13th largest automaker in 2022 by Fortune (down from 12th place the previous year).
Nissan has two reporting segments: Automobile Products and Sales Financing. In FY2022, Nissan generated 91% of its revenue from the Automobile Products segment. The automaker produces both passenger and commercial vehicles under several brands, including Nissan, Infiniti, Datsun, and Nismo.
Since 1999, Nissan has been part of the Renault–Nissan–Mitsubishi Alliance (Mitsubishi joined in 2016), a partnership between Nissan, Japan’s Mitsubishi Motors, and French automaker Renault.
Nissan’s medium-term restructuring and expansion targets set in 2020 under the “Nissan NEXT Plan” aim to reach a 5% operating profit margin (from 3.6% in FY2022) and a global market share of 6% by the end of FY2023. “Ambition 2030 Plan,” Nissan’s longer-term vision announced in 2021, aims to take the company into the next decade through research on next-generation battery and driver assistance technology. Nissan aims to achieve 50% electrification by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050.
