SPEEDA Edge Funding Analysis 2022: A search for bright spots
VC funding* across the 100+ SPEEDA Edge Industry hubs** amounted to ~USD 114 billion in 2022, over 2,500+ funding rounds. This was a sharp drop (nearly half) from what was raised in record-breaking 2021. Still, startups in the Energy & Climate Change space managed to raise significantly more funding (up 50% YoY to USD 7.4 billion), driven by investor interest for Carbon Capture, Carbon Management, and Hydrogen. Another bright spot was Logistics & Supply Chain Tech, which raised USD 1.5 billion more than 2021. EV- and Truck-related startups, however, saw heavy drops. In addition, Web3 Ecosystem saw an uptick (despite cryptomarket woes), indicating investors are still looking for stable use cases of blockchain. In this special report, we present a detailed overview and analysis of how the funding rounds in 2022 were spread across various sectors and industries.
