ZeroAvia, a hydrogen-based aviation solutions developer, has received a strategic investment from American Airlines. The financial details of the transaction were undisclosed. This brings the company’s total funding to an excess of USD 150 million.
In addition, the two companies have also entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU), where American Airlines will order up to 100 hydrogen-electric engines from ZeroAvia. The engines will be deployed to power American Airlines’ regional jet aircraft with zero-flight emissions.
<ul><li> Analyst QuickTake: American Airlines’ investment in ZeroAvia was followed by the latter’s second tranche of Series B funding—USD 30 million in July 2022. The company raised funds from three other major airlines including IAG, United Airlines, and Alaska Airlines. Furthermore, ZeroAvia’s recent partnerships were aimed at improving its aircraft technology. These include partnerships with Ravn Alaska , Otto Aviation , Hyzon , De Havilland Canada , ASL Aviation , and Alaska Airlines .</ul>
