Serve Robotics partners with 7-Eleven to test droid-based deliveries in Los Angeles

Partnerships

  • Serve Robotics, a spin-off from Uber that operates delivery droids, has partnered with convenience store chain, 7-Eleven, to launch an autonomous food and beverages delivery service in Los Angeles, California.

  • The companies have already launched the service, and 7-Eleven customers within the area have the option to order a range of items including food, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages via the store’s delivery app to be delivered by the droids. A delivery fee of USD 2.99 will be charged to the customer.

  • The droids can carry approximately 50 lbs and are equipped with cupholders to deliver drinks. They are also AI-powered and hence can adjust their speed on uneven ground to prevent spills during beverage deliveries.

  • Analyst QuickTake: Today’s collaboration is yet another addition to Serve Robotics' growing list of partners, which includes companies such as Uber’s food delivery arm, Uber Eats , restaurant conglomerate Brinker International, pizza-making robot developer Piestro, and Yum! Brands’ Pizza Hut Canada. On a separate note, we notice 7-Eleven’s ongoing efforts at automating its last-mile delivery process. In fact, the company has also partnered with autonomous delivery vehicle (ADV) developer, Nuro, and drone-based delivery services providers, SkyDop and South Korea-based Pablo Air , for delivery trials/commercial pilots in the US and South Korea.
