upGrad, an online higher education platform, raised INR 3 billion (~USD 36.4 million) through a rights issue. This amount includes investments of ~USD 9.8 million from existing investor Temasek and ~USD 25.74 million from Ronnie Screwvala, the co-founder and chairperson of upGrad.
Analyst QuickTake: This funding round follows upGrad’s USD 210 million funding round led by ETS Global in August 2022, which was aimed at fueling its expansion through targeted acquisitions such as Harappa Education, Wolves India, and Centum Learning. This was just two months after the firm raised USD 225 million in June 2022. These consecutive rounds of funding suggest that upGrad has been successful in gaining the confidence of investors and positioning itself as a promising player in the EdTech space.
