Waabi, a Canadian company developing self-driving trucks, has signed a lease for a self-driving truck terminal in Lancaster, a suburb of Dallas. The terminal will become Waabi's central facility for its operations in Texas.
The Lancaster terminal, purposely constructed for autonomous vehicle (AV) trucking, is situated on an 8-acre plot and will accommodate a series of features tailored for AVs. These include a large area allocated for trailer parking, a 24.7k square-foot office and maintenance shop, high-speed data offload capability, a fueling station, truck weighing scales, and a dedicated pre-trip and post-trip inspection area.
Analyst Quick Take: Waabi launched its first-generation self-driving truck technology in November 2022 and launched Texas operations in September 2023 in a partnership with Uber Freight . The launch of the trucking terminal will enable Waabi to further its commercial operations and partnerships. Wasabi’s competitors such as Aurora Innovation and Kodiak Robotics currently operate autonomous trucking operations in Texas.
