Via, a provider of mobility management systems, has partnered with the City of Gastonia to introduce GoGastonia, a rideshare service for on-demand microtransit transportation for residents.
The service uses smart algorithms that match riders going in the same direction for a shared ride and will replace six fixed routes operated with city buses. Additionally, the solution includes 14 minivans and allows riders to book and pay for their rides online or via phone.
The service operates six days a week at varying times. The price for one-way regular rides starts at USD 2.00.
The City claims that the new service will expand transit coverage and frequency.
