German drone delivery provider Wingcopter has partnered with a Latin American company UAV LATAM and its subsidiary UAV del Peru to commence drone-based deliveries to remote areas in Peru, using its latest “Wingcopter 198” model. This is reportedly one of the first partnerships to use drone-based delivery technology for commercial and humanitarian application in Latin America.

The company initially plans to use drones to deliver medical products to remote areas in Peruvian Andes, with plans to expand the service to include other countries in Latin America. The drone pilots have already been trained by Wingcopter for this.

UAV del Peru is also a part of Peru Flying Labs, a member of Flying Labs Network—a drone application-related training and education program provider led by not-for-profit organization WeRobotics. Wingcopter has also been a technology partner of Flying Labs Network since February 2021.

Analyst QuickTake: Expanding reach to Latin America has been one of the goals of Wingcopter, and today’s partnership accelerates those plans. In fact, last October, the company teamed up with SYNERJET, a business aviation specialist in Latin America, where the latter would act as the distributor and local technical support provider for Wingcopter’s drone customers in the region. In December 2021, Wingcopter also received funds from the same to expand its operational reach in Latin America. Its peer startup Skyports is also eyeing the Latin American market and has so far tapped Colombia with plans to expand the service in the region.
