Founded in 2020, Copy.ai is a content creation platform that leverages OpenAI's GPT-3 framework and machine learning (ML) algorithms to generate written content for various marketing applications. These include email subject lines, social media posts, product descriptions, blog articles, and company mottos. Initially, the founders built a tagline generator and launched it on Twitter, which led to the development of a more robust platform, which now includes more than 90 AI tools for sales, real estate listings, and job descriptions. Additionally, it supports more than 25 languages, including Chinese, Portuguese, German, and Italian. As of February 2023, the platform had served 380,000+ users, including more than 5,000 well-known brands, including Microsoft, eBay, Nestlé, and Ogilvy.
Copy.ai's growth is primarily driven by SMB and marketing teams that subscribe to its writing tools, where the cost per word decreases as users generate more words. This payment structure promotes usage while giving Copy.ai access to additional data to optimize the 20–30 different models it uses to work on various stages of content creation. Funding and financials
Copy.ai raised USD 11 million in Series A funding in October 2021, led by Wing Venture Capital, to expand its team of engineers to drive product development. The round follows its USD 2.9 million seed funding round in March 2021, led by Craft Ventures.
In October 2022, the company reported a gross margin of more than 50% and an increase in annual recurring revenue (ARR) of 346% YoY to USD 10 million. By the end of 2022, ARR was expected to reach USD 11.6 million.
