Revyve is a Wageningen-based food tech company that has developed a patented technology to extract functional ingredients like fiber and protein from brewer's yeast, a byproduct of the beer brewing industry. Revyve’s proprietary technology uses circularly sourced microbial biomass to produce effective proteins and fibers, which are then converted into high-performance texturizing ingredients for plant-based products.

Its products claim to possess excellent gelling, emulsification, and foaming properties, making them highly versatile for applications like meat alternatives, fried snacks, pasta, sauces, and baked goods. Additionally, they are free from stealth starches, emulsifiers, and e-numbers such as methylcellulose.

In March 2023, Revyve developed a plant-based egg white replacer made from upcycled spent brewer’s yeast. Further, in June 2024, the company announced the debut of its plant-based egg replacer, created using Revyve’s patented technology, to texturize plant-based burgers.

In September 2024, the company introduced a new gluten-free egg replacer made from baker's yeast. It also began operations of its new factory in the Netherlands, with an estimated production capacity of ~300 tons (sufficient for ~75 million burgers).

Key customers and partnerships

Revyve has collaborated with beer giant ABInBev, which provides the raw materials, as part of the EGGcited project. This project involved upscaling Revyve's technology to a semi-industrial level, producing hundreds of kilograms of ingredients per batch. The company plans to commercially launch its ingredients by the end of 2023. It has also partnered with Ruitenberg Ingredients, a family firm offering innovative solutions for the food industry. Together, they have successfully used Revyve's ingredients in meat analogs, bakery products, and dairy alternatives, validating their functionality and sensory performance.

In October 2024, Revyve partnered with partnered with UK-based Daymer Ingredients for its first overseas distribution agreement. Through this partnership, Revyve's natural texturizing ingredients made from micro-milled yeast will be available to British food manufacturers.
