Zapier offers a no-code platform that enables users to automate routine tasks and connect SaaS applications that aren’t natively integrated via a drag-and-drop interface. Users can build out automated workflows named “Zaps,” which can perform up to 100 actions per flow and add webhooks to receive data from a service or send requests to a URL. The platform enables users to incorporate custom if/then logic, conditions, and filters as well as add security features such as app restrictions, single sign-on, and custom data retention.
The platform also provides several pre-built templates that enable users to deploy solutions for lead management, marketing campaigns, project management, employee onboarding, and productivity. The company also planned to launch several features that are still in the beta phase, as of November 2023. These include a form- and web-page-building tool, a process visualization tool, and a database-building tool.
In March 2024, Zapier launched a new AI-powered tool that enables users to create customer-facing chatbots that can undertake a range of tasks such as answering questions, resolving issues, and managing leads. Users can train these AI chatbots on their own knowledge and brand, and share and embed them on business websites and applications.
In March 2021, the company acquired no-code education service and community provider Makerpad for an undisclosed amount. The company noted that Makerpad would operate as a standalone entity, continuing its vision to educate people on building no-code projects and workflows. In March 2024, the company acquired the development team behind Vowel, a video conferencing tool, for an undisclosed sum. Zapier leveraged the team’s expertise in AI-powered video conferencing, for the development of a new offering, Zapier Central. The solution provides users with a collaborative workspace that enables them to create AI bots for automating tasks across over 6,000 apps.
Key customers and partnerships
As of November 2023, the platform served over 1.8 million businesses, which includes large and small enterprises, such as Spotify, Adobe, Fox, Dropbox, and BuzzFeed.
Additionally, the platform provides integrations with 7,000+ apps (as of July 2024) and enables users to also build integrations. Notably, its integration with OpenAI enables users to combine their data with the GPT3.5 AI model to build chatbots that can generate on-brand responses and be embedded directly into their websites.
