Vegan Food Group (formerly VFC Foods prior to January 2024 ) is a UK-based plant-based meat startup established in 2021 by Veganuary co-founder Matthew Glover and famous chef and restaurateur Adam Lyons. The startup produces plant-based chicken fillets , chicken tenders, popcorn chicken, chicken mince , and chicken breast alternatives. In January 2024 , the company unveiled a new range of ready meals, Chick*n sausages, and a chilled version of its chicken-style mince in the UK for Veganuary. As of January 2024, VFG operations span 21,000 distribution points including Tesco, Ocado, Sainsbury, The Vegan Kind, Mighty Plants, and Suma Wholesale with a selection of 80 stock-keeping units
In June 2023 , the company acquired British plant-based meat producer Meatless Farms. The Meatless Farms brand was retained post-acquisition, while its products were used to diversify VFC Foods’ plant-based chick*n range. Moreover, the acquisition supported VFC Foods’ growth strategy and mission to increase the distribution of vegan products and eliminate animals from the food supply chain. In October 2023 , VFC Foods acquired Clive's Purely Plants, a manufacturer of plant-based pies, quiches, rolls, and nut roasts, for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition helped the company to expand its portfolio, increase production volume, and supplement plans to penetrate the retail and food service sectors in the UK and Europe.
In February 2024 , VFG acquired TOFUTOWN, a Germany-based producer of plant-based foods. This consolidation was expected to allow VFG to boost operational efficiencies and economies of scale by leveraging collective resources and expertise to expedite its growth within the UK and EU markets.
Key customers and partnerships
In January 2024 , the company partnered with Grubby, a recipe kit startup, to offer high-protein vegan meals for Veganuary.
Funding and Financials
In April 2023 , the company secured GBP 6 million (USD 7.4 million) in a funding round led by the specialized investment fund Veg Capital. The new funds were earmarked for expanding its reach across various channels and introducing innovative products in related categories. Moreover, it plans to expand its presence across the Nordic countries, Belgium, and Spain while increasing its reach in France, Germany, and Australia.
