Nexa3D offers an end-to-end additive manufacturing (AM) solution including 3D printers with related material and software and post-processing solutions for a range of use cases from functional prototyping to on-demand manufacturing. The company targets manufacturing, dental, automotive, and medical applications. Nexa3D’s range of 3D printers, which uses proprietary lubricant sublayer photo-curing (LSPc) technology, includes desktop and industrial printers that use resins and thermoplastics. In September 2022, the company introduced three photoplastic materials that expanded printing applications to electronics manufacturing and in November introduced three more photopolymer resins targeting industrial and desktop 3D printers.
Nexa3D’s software comes with automated print preparation and printer management software that spans the entire design-to-manufacturing cycle, enabling process stability and consistency while improving scalability. The proprietary technology, which combines process and geometry algorithms, helps optimize the production process. It can also be integrated through an application programming interface (API) with other software tools to expedite the process. Nexa3D’s post-processing solutions ensure consistent dimensional accuracy and performance of printed parts. In November 2023, the company introduced an AI platform named Nexa AI for its XiP Pro industrial 3D printer, to simplify and automate the printing process.
Nexa3D completed the acquisition of Essentium in January 2024 to add Essentium’s high-speed extrusion (HSE) to its current product portfolio and maximize the combined capabilities to provide 3D printing solutions to defense, health, and industrial customers. In February 2024, Nexa3D acquired 3D-Fuel, a 3D printing filament manufacturer, for an undisclosed amount. 3D-Fuel leveraged the acquisition to integrate Nexa3D’s solutions into its product portfolio, enhance operational efficiency, and invest in R&D.
Key customers and partnerships
Nexa3D sells through a global reseller network including Obsidian Solutions Group and 3DZ (it entered the Southern European market with this partnership).
The company has partnerships with global material suppliers like Henkel, BASF, Covestro, Evonik, and Arkema to source high-grade materials. It also partnered with Headmade Materials to expand metal 3D-printing capabilities with ColdMetalFusion in September 2023.
It has also entered into product development partnerships with Addifab to accelerate 3D printing of injection mold tooling (March 2022) and EasyRx to develop a streamlined 3D printing process for dental labs (December 2023).
Funding and financials
Nexa3D raised USD 55 million in funding in May 2021 led by OurCrowd and Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures, bringing the company’s total funding to USD 95 million. The funds were to be used to improve manufacturing operations, expand customer acquisition, introduce several new products to the market, and expand the global reseller network.
