SPEE3D has developed a patented technology called “Supersonic 3D Deposition,” a process based on cold spray additive manufacturing technology, in which a rocket nozzle accelerates air at up to 3x the speed of sound. Metal powder is then injected into the fast-moving air and deposited onto a surface using a six-axis robotic arm to bind the powders together.

In May 2024, the company launched a new mobile AM solution named Expeditionary Manufacturing Unit (EMU) to help customers produce high-density metal parts rapidly and on-site. The solution is built into two 20-foot shipping containers, which comprise the mobile metal 3D printer XSPEE3D and a post-processing and testing unit called SPEE3D cell. The company has operations in Australia, North America, and Europe.

In June 2024, SPEE3D launched its first US-based manufacturing facility and applications center at the John Olson Advanced Manufacturing Center at the University of New Hampshire (UNH). The new facility enables the company to collaborate more closely with US-based companies, including the US Department of Defense. During the same period, the company also launched a material called Nickel Aluminium Bronze Expeditionary (NAB Expeditionary) for its cold spray additive manufacturing (CSAM) systems. The alloy is reportedly high-strength, corrosion-resistant, a lubricant, and resistant to cavitation damage and stress corrosion cracking.

In August 2024, the company announced the completion of Trident Warrior, the experimental portion of the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, at the Marine Corps Air Station in Hawaii.

SPEE3D’s notable customers include Nissan Australia, the Australian Army, Japan Ministry of Defense, Humpty Doo Barramundi fish farming, and Garry Rogers Motorsport.

In June 2023, SPEE3D entered a partnership with the US Navy to develop SUBSAFE manufacturing materials using its CSAM technology and in August partnered with CAMRE (Consortium for Additive Manufacturing Research and Education) to accelerate the integration of metal-based additive manufacturing into the US tri-service maritime forces. In March 2023, the company entered a partnership with the British Army, which purchased a printer and signed a two-year contract to bring the company’s metal cold-spray printing technology to develop the Army’s unplanned repair capabilities.

In April 2024, the company partnered with New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII), which specializes in advanced technology research, to integrate its Cold Spray Additive Manufacturing (CSAM) technology into the latter's advanced manufacturing facility.

In July 2024, SPEE3D partnered with Russelsmith, a Nigerian industrial AM solutions provider, to offer its cold-spray AM solutions to customers across the oil and gas, defense, and commercial industries in West Africa.
