Hospital-at-Home

Redefining hospital care with the comfort of home

Overview

Hospital-at-Home refers to a set of solutions and systems that aim to deliver hospital-level care (pre-hospitalization, acute, post-acute, and ambulatory services) to patients at home, reducing the need for in-patient hospital stays. The goal of this care model aims to facilitate early discharge from acute care, lower readmission rates, and enhance the quality of patient care through the extension of hospital-level services beyond traditional hospital settings.

Startups in this space typically offer a combination of in-home and virtual visits from medical professionals, nursing care, medication delivery and management, and diagnostic and lab-testing services. In addition, hospital-at-home startups offer necessary medical equipment and support services such as IV support, oxygen, X-rays, and physical therapy.

Unlike Telehealth services that predominantly focus on primary care, hospital-at-home startups cater to acute care needs and assist patients that are recovering from complex procedures. Some common conditions suitable for treatment through hospital-at-home programs include congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, and cellulitis.
